Waterloo Region locally engages the Green Party Leadership Candidates

The Green Party of Canada has a leadership contest underway, as a result of Elizabeth May stepping down as Party Leader late 2019.

Commencing on July 22nd, over a nine week period with one leadership candidate per week, Waterloo Region Greens will be hosting opportunities for us to engage with the hopefuls in online Meet & Greets. Each will introduce themselves and answer our questions. After each have had their individual meet-ups with us, week ten will have them together in an online local debate.

Please take this opportunity to get to know the candidates in the race and have a say in who is selected as the new Green Party of Canada Leader by ensuring you are a member and able to vote.

The first leadership candidate online Meet & Greet is Wednesday July 22. Most of the weekly events are on Wednesdays at 7 pm, though one is scheduled for a Tuesday. See the list below and join to chat with as many of the candidates as you would like. Please click on the RSVP links for those which interest you. After it is concluded, the event’s RSVP link will be replaced with the YouTube link for the recorded event.

Our Waterloo Region Debate with all candidates is on Wednesday September 23rd.

More details to follow.

Important notes:

  • If you would like to vote in the race, you need to be at least 14 years old and a member of the Green Party of Canada before September 3, 2020. You can join for $10 here, or email us to check if you are already a member.
  • Online voting will open on September 26 and close on October 3
  • It’s a ranked ballot, so members will be able to rank as many candidates as they would like on their ballot, from their first choice onwards.
  • A new party leader will then be announced on October 4.

These weekly Meet & Greets are a fantastic opportunity to learn about each of the candidates in the lead up to the September 26 – October 3rd voting period. We hope to see you online over the coming weeks! Reach out to us if you have any questions, concerns, or wish to get involved by volunteering with us locally.
